The many things a WindDance offers!
Besides the exciting visual sensations -- hotter acceleration, higher speed, faster turning, and greater aerobatic agility than other kites -- WindDances add exciting physical sensation to the sport-kiting experience!
WindDancing -- the act of flying a WindDance -- simply feels exciting!
You feel the pull rise 2000% as you accelerate from the edge to the power-zone of the flight envelope! You feel the pull increase when you encounter stronger wind! You feel every bump in the wind! They range from gentle nibbles as you fly through wakes from birds and kites far upwind, or through mild washboard turbulence. To strong jolts as you fly through your WindDancing partner's wake, or encounter blustery gusts. You feel the pull rise every time you turn, which can be more often than once a second! A WindDance feels alive through your flying lines! No other kites provide this kind of fun!
The more tightly you turn a WindDance, the more the rising pull goes into the "turning" line (the line you pull on to turn it). During very sharp turn or a spin, all the pull is in one control line. This transforms dual-line kiting from the bland experience of holding onto a pair of evenly-pulling kite strings, into normal sport-&-recreation where you actively work one side of your body at a time. Whenever you turn hard, besides working out that arm, you exercise many large body muscles not normally used while kite flying, not even when 'power' and 'traction' flying.
In terms of lively physical sensation, WindDancing is often right up there with bicycling and skiing!
The new ergonomic FLYING handles enhance your ability to feel all this fun!
Higher-than-average speed. Strong edge to power-zone acceleration. Sensitive response to the wind, with exciting speed & pull bursts from gusts and bumps in the wind. In strong winds with 75-ft flying lines, the WindDance 1 (slowest of the three models) shrieks like a jet through the power zone during a two-second edge-to-edge pass. Substantially-higher straight-line acceleration & speed than the sport's competition delta kites.
Quick response & tight maneuvering. Superb tracking & accuracy. Pivot-on-a-wingtip turns & spins. Tight hairpins. Sharp square corners with no skidding or wobble. Faster spins than most deltas of the same wing area. Dazzling aerobatic agility. The WindDance 1, which has the same wing area as a 7-ft delta, in 15 mph wind can do a 10-ft square in less than one second, a challenge for even the best flyers. Substantially-higher maneuvering speed than the sport's competition delta kites.
Fast & powerful turning. Speed & power rise when you turn and spin. And so does the intensity of the hissing & shrieking sound. With most other kites, speed & power drop.
Wonderful handling at the edge. From a side-edge hover in light wind, lower wingtip positioned one wingspan above the ground, you can sharply hairpin-turn downward into a pass toward the power zone. Difficult for most dual-line kites, easy with all three WindDance models. From a such a hover you can also snap up-turn & down-turn loops.
Wide high-performance wind range. Flies with high performance and uniform handling in winds that fluctuate from light to strong as you fly. Unlike delta kites, there's no need to adjust the bridle, or to switch to different-sized kites, to maintain top performance in different winds.
In light winds, WindDances generally FLY with higher performance than deltas, except in near-zero and zero winds where specialized light-wind deltas are superior.
In strong winds, few delta kites handle well or FLY with high performance. WindDances shriek along at high speed and often turn almost too fast to see.
In fluctuating winds: As a 9-ft ultra-light delta and a WindDance 3 fly in 3 mph wind (both have the same in-flight wing area), the wind suddenly gusts to 20 mph. The delta self-destructs in midair. The WindDance becomes an intense high-speed tight-turning power kite.
Solid & lively pull: rapid and forceful pull fluctuations as you change power levels on the flight envelope, as you encounter gusts, and as you sharply maneuver.
Precision-tuneable for peak performance using two bridle adjusters. Tune in 1-mm intervals until you're there. One optimum bridle setting provides top speed & fastest turning for all winds.
Too fast & agile? Too powerful? This happens. Quickly subdue speed & pull -- for first-time flyers, for slow leisurely flying, or to be able to fly in very strong wind -- by attaching a pair of long & colorful tails. In strong wind, want high speed but with less pull? Reduce the bridle setting a little.
High-performance FLYING response to pull-on-your-kite-line power input. Applying power is basic "kite FLYING" skill: Pull on both lines to keep it airborne and to make it go fast. Pull on one line, the other can go slack, to make it turn & spin tightly & fast. The stronger you pull, the faster it goes and the faster it turns & spins. The longer you pull, the longer the speed & power last.
Powerfully-yanked one-line pull-turns? Many kites react poorly to this basic skill, or are damaged by it. WindDances respond with tight, powerful, high-speed turns & spins.
A natural and familiar steering & turning feel: the force RISES when you turn, like when you ski or bike or drive or fly an airplane. With a typical dual-line kite, the force drops. Although the force-RISES-when-you-turn feel has always been the norm in the sport & recreation world, with the introduction of WindDances it's a new feel in dual-line kiting.
A new type of power flying that's far more exciting and intense than normal tug-of-war-with-the-wind power flying: high-speed tight-turning strong-wind power flying where you get yanked downwind every time you fly into the power-zone, every time you encounter a gust, and every time you turn. This happens even with the small WindDance 1, and sometimes far too intensely for most people with the WindDance 3.
Exciting sound: ripping-through-the-air hiss & shriek that rises sharply with wind, speed, and turning intensity. "Want more power? More fun? Yank hard and go for the swish of high speed when you accelerate & turn!" we advise.
WindDance parafoils open up a whole new world of fun: side-by-side WindDancing, two or more WindDances zipping around close together on the same flight envelope -- without having to worry about accidental midair destruction if the kites collide.
For couples and family members and friends who want to fly together rather than stand far apart and fly alone, side-by-side WindDancing is easily-learned fun-filled recreation.
Experienced flyers WindDancing side-by-side can play exciting airgames such as "shadow," "mirror," "try to catch me," or any other they may dream up. In medium to strong wind, these dazzling displays of aerobatic prowess can be the most spectacular sight in all of dual-line kiting -- two WindDances darting around and shrieking through the air, 150+ mph relative approach and pullaway speeds, with breathtaking tight maneuvering & near misses! And it's all purely recreational! The only rule is to have fun!
No other kites in the world come close to providing this much fun!
A wider FLYING performance range than all other dual-line kites: depending on the wind and the whim of the flyer, from leisurely slow to vastly more spectacular in speed & turning than anything ever seen in serious and competitive flying!
The "WindDancing Workout": the unavoidable side-effect of energetic ACTIVE-flying WindDancing. The fun makes you do it. As you accelerate and turn -- especially while WindDancing side-by-side with a partner -- you experience a wide range of pull, you move your arms and the rest of your body a lot, and you dash and dance all over the ground. You get so caught up in the fun you're not even aware of all the physical activity. Dynamic pulsing pull + lots of movement + working many areas of your body = good exercise. Even with the smaller WindDance models and in light wind.
Only EASY BASIC SKILLS are required for all this hot performance & great fun to happen -- the simple but powerful traditional dual-line skills that stem from the simple "pull-on-your-kite-line" movements used to fly a single-line kite.
With one exception: when speed & pull are very high, as when in the power zone in strong wind, you must punch-turn to prevent excessive pull during turns, to enable very-sharp turns, and to conserve your strength to make the fun last longer.
Ultra-forgiveness: yank hard on one line, or let go of one line, and it keeps on flying.
Freedom from having to worry about avoiding impact with the ground, or with your partner's kite while flying side-by-side.
Relaunchability. What if it doesn't bounce and keep flying when you crash? With a little help from the wind, you can jiggle it into shape with your flying lines and self-relaunch immediately, with nearly 100% success in stronger winds.
A WindDance is an exciting & challenging high-performance kite -- that's also easy for beginners to learn on and fly. Superior FLYING performance. More forgiving, including to poor ground-avoidance skill. Easier to learn on and fly than delta kites.
Tremendous versatility: each WindDance model is a good light-wind kite, a good strong-wind power kite, easily tuned to various levels of speed & pull (add a pair of tails to lessen speed & pull, reduce the bridle setting slightly to reduce pull only), easy for beginners yet challenging for experts (how many flyers on this planet can do a 10-ft square in less than one second; the WindDance 1 can), and is compact enough to take with you anywhere.
Choice of three WindDance models. They vary in turning sharpness, control sensitivity, speed (the larger models fly faster, the opposite of other kites), turning energy (calories you burn), and pull. Some flyers must have them all!
If you seek the "Pure Joy of FLYING" -- some WindDance flyers simply call it "Pure Fun" -- WindDance parafoils are the durable, versatile, easy-to-fly, superior-performance alternatives to virtually all other dual-line kites including state-of-the-art deltas!
